H-1B is a non-immigrant visa program available to U.S. employers seeking to hire a foreign professional for a specialty occupation, in most cases requiring at least a bachelor’s degree.
How it works
More About H-1B
As a capped visa program, non-exempt H-1B candidates are subject to an annual selection process (i.e., lottery) conducted by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) each Spring. Once selected and approved, H-1B visa holders may remain employed for a maximum of six (6) years.
H-1B is also a “dual intent” visa, allowing foreign professionals to concurrently pursue Green Card sponsorship while remaining in H-1B status. H-1B visa holders actively pursuing Green Cards may be eligible to extend their stay beyond the usual 6-year limit, making H-1B an attractive option for employers in search of long-term employment solutions.
